Drakarian Civilization

Generalities & Lore

The Drakarians descend from humans who once lived under the dominion of the Four Elemental Dragons. In that ancient age humanity existed as servants, laborers, and sacrifices in a vast draconic empire where elemental forces ruled the land.

Their liberation came through the divine champion Tengrimor, who shattered the dragon empire and sealed the four dragons within arcane prisons bound by primordial runes.

The dragons cannot be destroyed.

They can only be contained.

Because of this, Drakarian civilization developed around a singular responsibility: guard the prisons and prepare for the day they awaken.

From among their people arises a rare order of ascetic mage-monks known as the Readers of the Apocalypse. These guardians study the prophetic runes maintaining the prisons and search for signs of instability. The runes contain dangerous elemental truths; prolonged study often destroys the reader’s eyesight.

Blindness among them is considered a sacred sacrifice in the service of the world.

Drakarian history is not written in terms of conquest or glory.

Their civilization exists in preparation for the culmination of history — the moment when the old world will break and the next age will begin.

They believe the imprisonment of the dragons did not end the ancient conflict. It merely delayed its final chapter. One day the seals will weaken, the dragons will stir, and the world will be forced through a violent passage from one era to another.

Because of this, Drakarians do not see themselves as rulers of the present age.

They see themselves as the custodians of the world's final threshold.

Everything they build, train, and study is done with a single purpose:

to endure the end of the old world… and guide what survives into the new one.

Appearance

Drakarians retain human form but carry visible traces of draconic influence.

Common traits include:

  • patches of hardened scales along the shoulders, neck, or arms

  • slightly reptilian eyes with metallic colors such as gold, ember red, or storm blue

  • angular facial features and pronounced jawlines

  • strong, muscular builds suited for endurance and combat

  • skin tones ranging from bronze to ash-gray

These features are believed to result from long exposure to draconic elemental magic during the age of enslavement.

Among Drakarians these marks are not considered monstrous.

They are ancestral scars.

Culture, Protection, and Life

Fidelity and Tenacity

Drakarian culture centers on personal loyalty and unwavering resolve.

Their society values:

  • loyalty to clan and oath

  • perseverance through hardship

  • defense of kin and homeland

  • honoring ancestral sacrifice

Children are raised with stories of the dragon age so that the memory of slavery never fades.

To a Drakarian, promises carry immense weight. Marriage vows, military oaths, and sacred pledges are binding commitments not only to society but to one’s own soul.

Breaking an oath is considered a deep spiritual failure.

Military, Economics, and Logistics

Force Leverage and Ferocity

Drakarians are masters of strategic power projection.

Rather than relying on brute numbers, they emphasize decisive application of strength at the exact moment it matters.

Their military doctrine favors:

  • concentrated assault forces

  • exploitation of enemy weaknesses

  • rapid battlefield momentum

  • overwhelming elemental weaponry

Their economic structure supports this philosophy. Resources are directed toward:

  • fortress construction

  • weapon production

  • logistics and supply networks

  • magical research tied to dragon containment

Drakarian cities often resemble fortified citadels that evolved into capitals.

Spirituality and Faith

Soul and Destiny

Drakarian faith is intensely personal.

They believe every individual carries a destined path of duty tied to the cosmic struggle against destructive forces.

Core spiritual ideas include:

  • fidelity to one's inner conviction

  • acceptance of sacrifice

  • moral strength in the face of catastrophe

  • readiness for the final conflict

The imprisonment of the dragons is not seen as permanent victory.

It is merely a pause before the final reckoning.

Many Drakarians believe their generation—or their descendants—may one day fight in that ultimate war.

Wisdom and Magic

Elemental and Divination

Drakarian magical traditions focus on two powerful disciplines.

Elemental Mastery

Drakarian mages wield the elemental forces once used by the dragons themselves—fire, storm, earth, and lightning.

Through study and discipline they transformed the powers of their former oppressors into tools of defense and warfare.

It is a grim kind of poetic symmetry.

Humanity learned the language of the dragons…
and now speaks it with its own voice.

Prophetic Divination

Practiced primarily by the Readers of the Apocalypse.

These monks study the ancient runes that maintain the dragon prisons and interpret signs of instability or awakening.

The runes are not simple symbols but fragments of elemental law. Gazing upon them too long burns the eyes and overwhelms the mind.

Many Readers eventually lose their sight.

Yet among the Drakarians, blindness is not considered loss.

It is believed that when the outer eyes fail, the inner vision begins.

Drakarian Temperament

Resolute Vigilance

Drakarians possess a temperament shaped by ancestral memory and relentless responsibility. Their people were once enslaved by forces capable of destroying civilizations, and that knowledge never fades from their cultural psyche.

Because of this, Drakarians tend to be serious, steady, and intensely reliable. They rarely act impulsively or carelessly. Every decision is weighed against duty, loyalty, and long-term consequences. A Drakarian believes that weakness, complacency, or broken promises can lead to catastrophe—not just for themselves, but for the entire world.

They value strength of character above charm or comfort. Endurance, courage, and fidelity are admired traits. A person who stands firm through hardship earns deep respect.

Despite their stern reputation, Drakarians are not cruel. Their loyalty to family, comrades, and sworn oaths runs extremely deep. Once trust is earned, it is rarely withdrawn.

In conversation they may appear blunt or intense, but beneath that hardness lies a profound conviction:

the world survives only because someone refuses to look away from danger.
